Upon arriving at Grandpa's door on a very hot afternoon: "Don't you have a straw hat or a sunbonnet to wear?" (The sunbonnet wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to wear the dress with it.)

Good ole Grandpa. I'll bet he dragged out some old, beat up hat covered in spider webs and tried to make you wear it. Grandma did that to me several times when I was a child. Good intentions, I guess.

Whatever happened to hats in our society? It seems that they were once so common as to be expected... you wouldn't walk outside without one, and the girls apparently got to wear theirs inside church (why?). Anyway I would not mind a return to the fedora. Much classier than my beat up Mets hat.

I like those 20s style ones, that just sort of sit on top of the girls head and are all cardboard-y.
